Montessori for infants through school age, rooted in Philadelphia since 1984.

What makes Queen Lane Montessori School different

Montessori education Mary and Orangel Calzadilla opened QLMS in 1984 to provide high quality, affordable early childhood education. Over the years, we have grown to include an Infant and Toddler education program, as well as serving the School Age population with before and after school care.

Infant

The care of infants is focused on their individual needs. The stimulation of all their senses resulting in a happy mindful baby is our daily goal. For children ages 3 – 12 months.

Toddler

Toddlers are offered a variety of opportunities to explore their world through play. Gross and fine motor dexterity is developed and social skills are refined through structured and unstructured activities. Their days are filled with music, art, dance, story time and friends. For children ages 16–36 months.

Preschool

Although it might seem like play to preschoolers, the Montessori Method is based upon educational fundamentals. Exercises abound that teach readiness skills like phonemic awareness, letter and sound recognition, basic math concepts and hands-on science exploration. Mirroring the PA Early Learning Standards, the Montessori Method focuses on reading, early writing and basic math. Science, world cultures, art, music and physical education round out the curriculum. For children ages 3 to 6 years old.

School Age

School age children are given a quiet environment for homework and projects with supervised access to computers and tutoring assistance as needed. Also available to elementary students are crafts, games, snacks, physical activities and relaxation. For children ages 6 to 10 years old.

PHLpreK

High-quality childcare services through PHLpreK Program for School Year 2026-2027. Partnered with the Philadelphia Office of Children and Families. No income or employment requirements. For children ages 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2026.

What a morning here looks like

Children arrive to calm, prepared classrooms and choose real work from open shelves — pouring, sorting, letters, numbers, art. A guide observes each child and steps in exactly when a skill is ready to grow. The long, unhurried work period is the heart of the method: concentration is built, not demanded.
